Recently, two third-grade classes from Ludowici’s Smiley Elementary School went to Savannah to watch a play based on the Junie B. Jones books by Barbara Park.
Melony Lambert and Brenda Whitley’s third-grade classes left SES at 8:30 a.m. and arrived at the Savannah Civic Center at around 10.  From, there, the group walked to a local park and had lunch before walking back to the Johnny Mercer Theater and settling in for the play.
The play’s central theme was: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” It included the struggles of Junie dealing with a new baby brother, wearing glasses, liking a boy, and having to be “second fiddle” to two friends in their group of three.
“The children love the Junie B. Jones books, and they help teach the kids how to deal with things that come up in their lives,” Lambert said.
