The Liberty County Martin Luther King Observance Association recently announced its schedule for Martin Luther King Observance Day events next month.
MLK festivities are set for Jan. 16-19. The events will promote individual and corporate responsibility to fulfill the dreams and ideals of King and others, said Rev. Alvin Jackson, the president of the Liberty County MLK Observance Association.
Jackson said the community has always been supportive of the events, and he hopes more people will come out in 2009. The celebration will feature a theatrical production by Liberty County Commissioner Donald Lovette, a youth night, a leadership breakfast, and will close with a parade and commemorative service Jan. 19 at Bradwell Institute’s gym.
Local organizations, businesses and churches are expected to participate in the parade, which along with the commemorative service, have attracted hundreds of people from all over the county, Jackson said.  He said last year’s theatrical production, youth night and leadership breakfast brought in a record crowd of supporters and participants.
“We hope to garner more and more support as people see the need to not only come together, but change their own worlds,” said Jackson.
