Gum Branch resident and Canoochee Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) Director Connie Thrift was recently elected vice chairperson of the Georgia EMC Directors’ Association.
According to Thrift, the purpose of the directors’ association is to promote electric cooperatives in Georgia, provide educational opportunities and periodically assemble its members to exchange ideas on common issues.
She was elected to the Canoochee EMC Board of Directors in October 2004. In 2007, Thrift was elected secretary-treasurer of the directors’ association.
She plays an active role in several community organizations, currently serving as chairperson of the Liberty County Health Department and chairperson of Diversity Health Center, where she was instrumental in the facility’s opening and led the effort to obtain state and federal funds. With sites in Ludowici and Hinesville, the center is dedicated to helping the uninsured or under insured.
A native of Liberty County, Thrift graduated from Bradwell Institute. She has completed training at the Leadership Academy and Certified County Commissioners Training provided by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia.
She is currently enrolled in the Academy for Economic Development offered through the institute. Thrift completed her Electric Co-op Certification in 2004.
She was elected to the Liberty County Board of Commissioners in 2002, and is now serving her second term.
Recently, Thrift was appointed to the Association of County Commissioners’ Health & Human Resource Resolutions Committee, which reviews resolutions prior to distribution to legislators in Atlanta.
She enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends. She is a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church.
Thrift is married to John and is the mother of two children, Johnathan, who resides in Los Angeles, and Justin, who lives in Liberty County. She has worked in a family-owned auto repair business for 30 years.
Canoochee EMC is a consumer-owned electric cooperative that provides electricity and related services to 13,000 consumers in nine counties.
