Hampton Island Preserve, a private retreat set on a 4,000-acre island off the coast of Georgia, has announced recent staff changes, including promoting Matthew Roher to general manager.
In this position, Roher is responsible for day-to-day operations including food and beverage, events and festivals, member services, human resources and management of the community’s distinct amenities.
A Savannah resident, Roher has served as executive chef of Hampton Island for the two years, providing culinary classes and specialized dining experiences for groups from two to 200.
A New York native and French Culinary Institute graduate, Roher, who trained at Ritz-Carlton Atlanta under Chef R. Christopher Christie, was awarded two stars by the New York Times while executive chef of Opal Basil Restaurant in Long Island, N.Y.
While at Opal, Roher developed a thirst for nutritionally balanced cuisines and was named one of the “Great Spa Chefs of the Nation,” in the Daily News (New York) in 2004.
The preserve has also hired Greer and Billy Gorman as sales executives. Based in Savannah, they are responsible for generating real estate and membership sales for the island in the United States and in international markets.
The couple transferred from Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., where they specialized in vacation home sales, specifically in the Florida Panhandle.
For the past three years, Billy Gorman and his business partner were responsible for closing more than $65 million for Tommy Sholes Realty as Florida Realtors.  Prior to moving to Florida in 2005, Greer Gorman lived in Atlanta serving on Paychex, Inc.’s sales team. In this capacity, she ranked in the top 10 percent of the Fortune 500 company’s international sales force.
