Students at Liberty Elementary School have a special motivator named Mandy, a German shorthaired pointer owned by SST coordinator Kim Farley.
Mandy comes to school at least once a week and can be seen at most every extracurricular event.
Students love to read to Mandy in the media center. They earn Mandy’s Golden Bone Awards for academic achievements and Mandy’s Certificates of Achievements for behavioral contracts. Mandy also promotes attendance.
Mandy is a 4-year-old national therapy dog, coastal therapy dog, canine and good citizen. She is ranked fourth in the nation for GSP obedience, according to Shorthaired Journal. She is the 2008 National GSP Open B (class) champion. Mandy’s titles include canine dog, canine dog excellence, and two titles in rally: rally novice and rally advance.
