Company officials are not confirming it, but media reports nationwide say Goody's Family Clothing Stores is liquidating its assets, which means the Hinesville store will close.
Reports started Monday when Women's Wear Daily reported that company insiders were talking about the liquidation. Since then, stories in outlets as varied as the New York Post to WVLT-TV in Knoxville, Tenn., where Goody's is based, have run similar stories.
Company officials have not denied the reports, but have not confirmed them either.
"We haven't been told anything," said an assistant manager at the Hinesville Goody's who declined to give her name. She directed further questions to store manager Patricia Smith, who did not work Saturday.
Goody's opened its Hinesville store in 2004 and routinely has employed 40-50 people.
Goody's LLC, as the parent company has been known in recent months, filed for bankruptcy in June. It closed some stores then. It emerged from Chapter 11 protection in October but, according to the national reports, decided to liquidate after a dismal holiday shopping season and demands from creditors.
There has been no word when the Hinesville store will actually end business.
