ATLANTA - Georgia legislative leaders are returning to the Capitol to begin dealing with a $2 billion budget shortfall.

The General Assembly opened its 2009 session on Jan. 12. Lawmakers took Monday off for Martin Luther King Day and Tuesday for the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

On Wednesday Gov. Sonny Perdue will address the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. He will lay out his plan to cut $2 billion in spending.

The state's fiscal economist, Kenneth Heaghney, will give legislative leaders his outlook on the economy for next year.

The leaders have been meeting with agency directors in an effort to find ways to cut spending.
