Jan. 20 will forever be etched in history. So Joseph Martin Elementary School Principal Sue Tolley and staff wanted to make sure their students would have memories of the day when America swore in its first African-American president.
The students enjoyed an assembly where several children dressed up as past presidents and quoted their famous sayings.
Lily Baker, chairwoman of the Liberty County Board of Education, spoke about the significance of the event and the struggles for civil rights. As a culminating activity, the students witnessed an enactment of the president taking the oath of office. Each student received a bookmark that listed President Obama’s accomplishments and history.
