The members of the Independent Jewelers Organization have banded together to spread some joy this Valentine’s Day to people who are struggling due to job loss or home foreclosure. Gold Mender Jewelers in Hinesville has partnered with other IJO retail members to provide free sterling silver heart necklaces to about 100 deserving individuals.
“We’re well aware of the state of the economy,” said Chrisie Hill of Gold Mender Jewelers. “And if there’s something we can do to help someone who’s going through some tough times to be able to show their love with a Valentine’s gift, we are all for it.”
The program began in Ventura, Calif., but through word of mouth and discussions within IJO, the number of participating retailers as grown quickly.
“I heard about this from our member, Debbie Fox, who started this program in her own store,” said IJO President Jeff Roberts. “I thought it would be a wonderful gesture for our members to give back to their communities.”
