Liberty Elementary School Media Specialist Mona Phillips announced a partnership with Target in recognition of its involvement with the school’s Accelerated Reader program. Phillips received a grant for $1,500 from Target. The proceeds have been used to create a warm and inviting area in which students will be reading, read to and participating in activities to promote literacy. Parents and community members are invited to drop in at the media center during school hours to see the improvements made possible by the Target grant.
“We have already had some visitors stop by to admire our reading area. The students are proud and excited about having this beautiful area in which to read," Phillips said.
This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and
communities throughout the country. Since opening its doors, Target has given five percent
of its income to organizations that support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today, that translates to more than $3 million every week.
“At Target, our local grants are making a difference in the communities we serve,” said Laysha Ward, vice president of community relations for Target. “We’re proud to partner with [nonprofit organizations] as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our guests and team members live and work."
