Two men are facing drug-related charges after being arrested Saturday by Ludowici police.
According to police investigator Richard Robertson, Corp. Frankie Goff and Officer Walt Pelton were watching a home at 28-C Macon Street for possible drug activity.
At about 7:30 p.m, the officers saw a Chevy Caprice back out of the driveway and then reverse direction and nearly slam into the residence.
The driver, later identified as Sam Edwards, then attempted to back out of the driveway again and nearly struck the police car.
While the situation was unfolding, Goff reportedly saw the driver throw something out of the car window.
The officers determined the objects to be a blue pill bottle and Saran wrap holding 24 smaller sip-lock bags. Each of the bags contained three to four pieces of a substance that was later identified as crack cocaine.
The pill bottle also reportedly held 21 smaller plastic bags, each containing a white powdery substance.
The officers then asked Dederick Bryant, a resident at the home, for permission to search it. When he refused, Robertson said, a search warrant was obtained and officers, with assistance by Reidsville Police Officer James Water and his K-9, searched the premises.
They reportedly found a small amount of suspected marijuana.
Robertson estimated the street value of the cocaine at $2,000.
Edwards was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, a felony. Bryant was charged with possession of marijuana, less yhan one ounce, a misdemeanor.
“We want these people to know that we are going to stay on top of this, and if you are out there selling or using this stuff, we’re going to do everything we can to catch you,” Robertson said.
