A Riceboro man, wanted in connection with a shooting last year, has been returned to Liberty County after being found in New York.
Clifton Walker, 19, who was wanted in the wounding of two people in Riceboro last March has been returned to face three counts of aggravated assault stemming from the shooting on Barrington Ferry Road. Charell Roberts and Ashley Mikel were wounded when shots were fired at the vehicle they were riding in. At the time Mikel’s 4-month-old son was strapped in a carseat in the rear of the vehicle.
According to Liberty County Sheriff Det. Brian Barnes, Roberts was struck in the left arm, while Mikel suffered a wound to her left hand.
The child was not injured. But charges are being pressed against Walker because the child was present at the time.
Barnes said it is believed Walker fled to Rochester, N.Y., with the aid of his mother, Jessica Walker, who also has a warrant for her arrest for hindering apprehension of a criminal.
Clifton Walker was arrested in October in Rochester for a weapons charge. While Rochester detectives were running a background check on him they discovered a warrant in connection with the Riceboro shooting.
Rochester detectives notified Barnes. Barnes and Det. Jeff Hein flew to Rochester in October to question Walker about the shooting. Barnes said he refused to talk. At the time he also refused extradition, which got the governors of Georgia and New York involved in the extradition procedure.
Walker was returned last month and had his first appearance before a magistrate. He was denied bond. In a superior court appearance last week he was denied bond once again.
At the time of the shooting Walker was out on bond for aggravated assault and armed robbery charges in Hinesville, according to authorities.
Barnes has asked the public to contact the
sheriffs department at 876-4555 if anyone knows the whereabouts of Jessica Walker.
