A standing-room only crowd packed Smiley Elementary’s gym for the school’s first-ever pageant, which, according to principal David Edwards, was a smashing success.
“I never expected this level of participation. All of the boys and girls are so handsome and beautiful and they’re all doing a good job,” Edwards said.
The principal said the pageant was created to raise money for the school. More than 400 people attended the event.
“All the money raised from the pageant will go to the school ... some of the areas it will fund will be the honors day ceremony and the blast-off party at the end of the year,” he said.
In the princess division, kindergarten-first grade, the third runner-up was Marisa Silinsky, the second runner-up was Kiley Hunt, the first runner-up was Chyanna Criswell and Ainsley Dawson took home the princess crown.
In the prince division, also kindergarten-first grade, the third runner-up was Yadielle Almodovar, the second runner-up was Brady Freeman, who was decked out in his Cub Scout uniform, the first runner-up was Tyler Sizemore and Jalen Delgado-Villanueva took home the king crown.
In the queen division, second- and third-graders, the third runner-up was Ashlyn Hughes, the second runner-up was Kimauria Ward, the first runner-up was Sophie Cooper and Suzannah Dunckel was crowned queen of the pageant.
In the king division, also second- and third-graders, the third runner-up was Jose’ Boyd, the second runner-up was Hunter Sizemore, the first runner-up was Grayson Howard and Daniel Silinsky was crowned king of the pageant.
Jordon Whigham and Katie DeLoach won the people’s choice awards.
In addition to entertainment provided by the pageant candidates, the crowd was treated to a martial arts demonstration by world karate champion Daniel Teston.
Teston showed the audience a few moves and, later, ballerina Harley Dawson wowed onlookers with a dance routine.
“I want to thank all of the kids who participated, their parents and families, the SES pageant committee and especially Ms. Rita Watson (owner of Rita’s Bridal and Formal Shop), who donated crowns and trophies,” Edwards said.
All contestants received participation trophies.
