LUDOWICI — A cabdriver was injured while escaping from what is believed to be a robbery attempt Friday night.
At around 11:30, a female driver for Yellow Cab out of Hinesville responded to a call at Aaron’s Mobile Home Park off Arnold Drive in Long County.
According to Long County Sheriff’s Department Det. Nicky Anderson, the driver was en route to Lot #58, when she was flagged down by a man and woman in the park.
The cab driver asked if they were her fares, they said yes and got in the backseat.
As she started to drive off, the man in the back wrapped a black electrical cord around the driver’s neck and began choking  and hitting her.
The driver then accelerated and drove her cab into a tree between two mobile homes.
According to the incident report, after the car had stopped, the driver heard the male assailant ask his female companion if she was OK. The woman said yes and they fled.
Because of the crash, Long County EMS and
Ludowici/Long County Volunteer Fire Department were called out. EMTs treated the cab driver
and took her to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville and later to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
Anderson said the crime is believed to have been an attempted robbery, but it’s still under investigation.
He said the driver is in stable condition at Memorial Health University Medical Center. She suffered fractures to her ribs and facial lacerations.
If anyone has information on this incident, they are asked to contact the LCSD at (912) 545-2118, and ask for Anderson.
