The Long County Blue Tide boys basketball team got a little help in the 2-AA region race Friday when the McIntosh County Buccaneers beat the Appling County Pirates by a score of 55-47.
The Pirates had a slim, one-game lead over the Long County Blue Tide going into Friday night’s games, but saw that lead disappear with their loss. The Blue Tide win over the Pierce County Bears, 70-61, also helped.
The Tide won the game over the Bears with a strong offensive output from several starters, and solid relief coming off the bench.
In the game Justin Boyd had 8 points, Brandon Simmons had 9, Robert Gamble had 11, Prince Moody had 12, and Jimmy Bacon once again led all Blue Tide shooters with 13 points.
With the win, the Long County boys are now 9-2 and atop the 2-AA Region standings, tied with Appling County, and McIntosh County is two and a half games back at 7-3.
The Blue Tide, who now have an overall regular season record of 12-5 will try to keep the wins coming this Tuesday as they travel to Folkston to take on Charlton County. The last time the Tide faced the Indians, they won the game easily, 69-49. The game starts at 7 p.m.
