Applications to academies solicited

POSTED: May 17, 2007 5:02 a.m.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga) is accepting applications for nominations to the four U.S. Service Academies.
High school juniors and other qualified applicants can apply for nomination for classes that enter in the summer of 2008.
“Young men and women who have a desire to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy at Annapolis or the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point should contact my office for a nomination application packet,” Kingston said.
Stressing the need to act now, Kingston noted, “Although the deadline for a completed file is Nov. 1, it usually takes months to gather the documentation necessary to complete the application process.”
All applicants who appear to meet the academy entrance requirements will be invited to personal interviews by the 1st District Service Academy Advisory Board in the fall.
Academy nominations are based on academic achievement in high school including grade point average, class standing, and scores on the SAT or ACT. Demonstrated leadership potential in school and community activities as well as motivation, physical fitness and personal recommendations are also considered.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, legal residents of the First Congressional District, at least 17 years, but not past their 22nd birthday on July 1, 2008, high school graduates by July 1, 2008, unmarried, and have no children.
For additional information or to receive an application packet, write to Kingston, 805 Gloucester St., Room 304, Brunswick, Ga. 31520 or call Rob Asbell at (912) 265-9010.
