Panther track season ends at region meet

POSTED: May 19, 2007 5:03 a.m.
Liberty County High School’s boys track team finished sixth at the Region 3-AAA meet Wednesday in Waynesboro.
Burke County won the meet.
No one from the Panthers qualified for the state meet, which is May 10-12 in Jefferson, but coach Keith McGee is proud of his team’s hard work this season.
“I’ve enjoyed working with this group of students,” he said. “They are a good group of coachable athletes.”
Top performers for the Panthers include Dimitri Lane, who finished third in the 110m hurdles, Roderick Jones, who finished third in the high jump, and Trier Bennett, who finished fourth in the discus.
Senior Donavan Kates performed gallantly, running with a tweaked knee.
McGee said the competition was fierce and that the region should be represented well at the state meet.
Other Panthers who competed include Demetrius Stinson, Hakeem Clark, Tyrene Moore, Richard Oquendo, Aaron Bennett, Keith Lemay, Andrew Lopez, Melvin Anderson and Devery Donalson.
All but Kates and Jones will return next season.
“We should be a year stronger, older and more athletic next season,” McGee said.
