LUDOWICI — A Long County man was shot last week in an apparent break-in at his home.
According to Long County Sheriff’s Department Chief Det. Ty Smith, at around 4 a.m. June 10 an intruder crawled through the kitchen window of Ramando Bass’s residence in Pine Crest Village Mobile Home Park on Lee Place Road.
The intruder went to Bass’ bedroom, opened the door and turned on the light. According to Smith, the man was holding a red mechanics-type rag over his face.
Bass, who had been sleeping next to his wife, got up, but was shot in the shoulder. Smith said the intruder then ran out the back door.
Smith said the intruder was described as a black male with a small build, around 5 foot 2 inches, with short hair.
The detective said a Long County EMS ambulance was called to the scene. Paramedics treated Bass and took him to Liberty Regional Medical Center. Bass, 30, was treated at the hospital and released Thursday.
Smith said the motive has not been determined and the case is under investigation.  The detective also said a reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
If anyone has any information on this shooting, call the Long County Sheriff’s Department at 545-2118 and ask for Smith.
Any information provided will be kept in confidence, he said.
