Despite a two-hour weather delay, Colt Ford put on a great show June 18 at the Clubhouse in Rye Patch in Long County for the fans who braved the rain.
“He was great. He rocked,” said Luke Miles, who came down from Claxton for the show.
The concert began at around 7:30 p.m. with the group “6-Gun South” from Brunswick. About 30 minutes into the group’s set, they had to exit the stage and cover their equipment because of rain and lightning.
Members of the audience scampered for shelter and headed to their vehicles to wait out the delay. As time passed, however, the crowd of more than 1,000 thinned to about 500.
When the rain stopped and the equipment was dried, the show sprang into full gear.
Ford hit the stage and sang songs from his “Ride Through the Country” album. He also did covers of a few songs by Charlie Daniels and David Allen Coe.
Ford, who is from the Athens area, didn’t disappoint the people who waited out the delay. He performed past midnight, into the early morning hours.
“I love playing for the regular folks in small towns like this. Real country people in real country places — they’re what my music is all about,” Ford said.
