Missing animal

A woman reported her two dogs were missing from her yard. They were described as male and female miniature pinschers. The male was described as being black and tan, and weighing about 30 pounds with a deviated snout. The female was described as being fawn colored and weighing 18 pounds.

Cruelty to animals

Deputies went to check on a report regarding two dogs being tied up to a tree and not being fed or cared for. The residence had been unoccupied for a couple of weeks and one of the dogs appeared to be very malnourished. Deputies were able to contact the owner who claimed he was out of town but was just returning to the residence. Once he arrived, he was arrested and cited with cruelty to animals.

Gum Branch Baptist Church was defaced when someone painted the church’s flower carts with the letters KKK. A church worker was also unlocking the church when a man began to pull the license tag off his vehicle stating the vehicle belonged to someone else. Deputies arrived and arrested the individual.

Someone broke the front window at Parker’s gas station in Riceboro and made off with cigars, cigarettes and scratch-off lottery tickets. Detectives are currently reviewing the store’s videotape.

A man reported someone had put a dent in the front panel of his BMW. He said he had reason to suspect the incident was related to his daughter and niece being involved in gang activity.

Dog running at large

A woman was pushing her lawn mower into her backyard when her neighbor’s dog ran toward her, jumped and knocked her on the ground. The dog continued to scratch and bite the woman until she poked it in its eyes, causing it to run into some nearby woods. The woman said she had ongoing problems with her neighbor’s dog and she fears it may harm her children. Animal control was notified.

A heat-press machine worth $2,000 was taken from the front porch of a residence in Riceboro. The machine was three feet long by three feet wide. No evidence was left behind to indicate how it was taken and there were no witnesses.

Speeding/fleeing

A man, driving at a high rate of speed, refused to stop for deputies who attempted to conduct a road stop. The chase continued down Cook Road and then on foot when the driver stopped in front of his house and jumped out. A deputy was able to catch him and place him under arrest. He later tested positive for alcohol, .125 alcohol in the blood.

A woman concerned about the welfare of her niece and nephew asked for a welfare check because the children’s mother has a history of drugs and alcohol abuse, and has admitted she has hitchhiked with her young son. The case was referred to the Department of Family and Children Services.
