Carter wrong on motives

POSTED: September 23, 2009 9:20 a.m.
Former President Jimmy Carter was a student at Georgia Tech, a graduate of the US Naval Academy, and was trained to be an engineer on a nuclear submarine; just goes to show that all the book-smarts in the world, don’t make you the brightest bulb in the pack.
In an interview, President Carter’s recently said, “I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man.”
Thank you President Carter, for letting us know, that when people, who happen to be white, express their Constitutional right, to peaceably disagree on political issues with our current President, that they are in short, “racist.”
I guess when non-Christian people disagreed with you on political issues during your presidency, they were anti-religious zealots, or when war heroes disagreed with you on pardoning the Vietnam draft dodgers, they must have been traitors to America.
And I guess, since you have repeatedly criticized, the Israeli government for their treatment of Palestinians, and your critics have called you an anti-semite; using your logic, they were accurate in their description of you.
No President Carter, none of these prejudicial judgments made on you, or the one that you made on critics of President Obama are true.
This “whole can of worms,” that President Carter has opened, came about as a result of the outburst by U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, during President Obama’s health-care speech two weeks ago. Wilson was wrong for what he did. There is no excuse for his “You lie” shout during the speech. It was disrespectful to the office of the presidency. But, Wilson apologized immediately for his outburst and President Obama accepted the apology. That should have been the end of story.
Many points stated by President Obama could be lies, but in the political world, these issues are called “points of dispute between ideologies” and that is for another day and another column.
When you look at what Carter said, regarding people who disagree with President Obama, it can without argument be said, that his statement is definitely a lie. All intelligent people know, that just because you intensely disagree with a person’s politics, that doesn’t make you a racist, a homophobe, a sexist, a religious zealot, or any other of the left’s favorite labels.
Poor President Carter, nearly 30 years after his failed presidency he is still trying to get attention for something other than 21 percent inflation, 444 days of hostage captivity, giving away the Panama Canal, and not letting our athletes whip some “tail” in the 1980 Summer Olympics.
For a number of years, President Carter was on the path to being recognized as a good ex-president, but in recent years he has begun to become involved in politics again, and as one would expect, he is still doesn’t get it.  I guess, he is a perfect example of the old adage, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”, or in his case, “bad ideals, never go away, they just resurface in other areas.”
President Carter, please, go build some homes for the poor, stick to teaching your Sunday School class, and take care of Ms. Rosalynn.
