Savannah squeaks by Tigers

POSTED: February 17, 2007 5:06 a.m.
The Lady Tigers traveled to Savannah High to face the Lady Blue Jackets last Tuesday.
In a competitive match up, with neither team relenting, the Blue Jackets grabbed the win by only one point (43-42). Bradwell’s Jamie McLemore (no. 4) put 17 points on the board for the Lady Tigers with Seandre Lee (no. 14) adding 11 of her own.
Throughout the game, each team kept the offense going. At the end of the half the Lady Jackets had a three-point lead (23-20).
The offense of the Lady Jackets was led by no. 25, Brittany Star who put up 14 points and 14 rebounds for the game.
The Jackets’ biggest lead of the game came in the fourth period when they were up by three points, but the Tigers continued to pursue the basket and brought the game back to within one point.
The Tigers’ Ikamiya Richardson (no. 30) stole the ball with 4.7 seconds and passed it to McLemore, but her shot did not sink and at the buzzer the Lady Jackets took the game.
The Lady Jackets are in the top five in their region (3-AAAAA). The fact the Lady Tigers were able to keep a tight game impressed their coach.
“I’m really proud of my team and their effort,” coach Faye Baker said. “I thought they played with a lot of heart tonight. I’ve often told them we have not given a good effort against a good team and tonight we stuck to the game plan and then our press was very effective, it seemed to give them (Savannah) fits.
“I think that was a big difference in the game, maybe we should have pressed more. I like what I saw tonight, my girls are playing a lot harder and if we continue to play like that I think good things will happen for us.”
Tonight the Lady Tigers travel to Windsor High. Game time is 7 p.m. The last two games for the Lady Tigers are home games. First is against Beach high on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and then it’s home again for Senior’s Night versus Johnson on next Friday at 7 p.m.
