Drowning victim identified

POSTED: September 25, 2009 1:14 p.m.
A man found submerged in a creek behind his home near Midway Thursday evening has been identified as Thomas Eugene Grier, 76, according to a Liberty County Sheriff Department incident report.
The report, filed by Deputy Danny Dinkins, said Grier was found by Joseph Spry in the creek shortly after 5:30 p.m. Spry pulled Grier from the water. He was not breathing. It is not clear how long Grier had been in the water. The report said the last person to speak with Grier was his wife, Mary, around 2 p.m.
Liberty County Coroner Reginald Pierce said Friday Grier's body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Savannah to perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The report called the drowning an accident.
Liberty County Sheriffs Deputy Detective Tracy Jennings is conducting the investigation.
