One man was killed, one injured in a single-vehicle accident in Long County Saturday night.
The accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on Stewart Hodges Road abouta mile from Rye Patch Road, according to GSP Trooper Cpl. Babara Brewton.
Brewton said the vehicle was traveling north bound on the road where the pavement ends. Johnathan M. Leadabrand, 29, of Hinesville apparently lost control of the Pontiac Sunbird as he tried to round a curve and slammed into a tree.
The impact caved in the driver's side of the vehicle.
When rescue personnel arrived, they had to cut the roof off the vehicle to get Leadabrand and passenger, Ryan Terrence Brady, 22, of Fort Stewart out. EMTs worked on Brady in an attempt to revive him, but he was later pronounced dead.
Leadabrand was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah suffering from lacerations.
Brewton said the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was called in to investigate the accident. The team out, of Reidsville, investigates accidents in which a fatality occurred for possible future prosecution. Brewton said no charges have been filed.
Both men reportedly are soldiers assigned to Fort Stewart. They were reportedly returning from visiting friends in the 800 block of Stewart Hodges Loop.
