Savannah’s Kevin William (no. 25) was unstoppable and led the Blue Jackets with 25 points in Tuesday night’s win over the Bradwell boys Tigers.
The defense for both teams kept the first period scoring to a low, 10-7. And Bradwell’s offense was able to rally and take a two point lead to end the half 23-21.
Deon Villascencio (no. 11) led the Tigers with 17 points, and Jarvis Wardsworth (no. 34) put up 10 points.
The Jackets offense began to open up the game toward the end of the third period by taking a seven-point lead. The Tigers were not able to regroup and, with 3:16 left in the game, faced an 11-point deficit. Savannah was able to control the ball as the clock wound down and maintained that 11-point lead for the win.
“We did a lot of things right, that we talked about,” said coach David Jones. “However, our offense did not have good movement or good screens within our offense. We are having trouble getting all our players playing together all at the same time.
“Officiating did not beat us. The game was fairly officiated, we just got beat.”
The game affected the regional standing for the Tigers, dropping them somewhere around fifth or sixth place.
“A win tonight would have given us fourth place, at this point we are probably fighting for fifth and sixth.” the coach said.
The Bradwell boys play at Windsor tonight at 8:30.
The last two games for the regular season will be played at home. Bradwell hosts Beach on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Beach is currently ranked number 2 in the state and number one in the region, they also lead the region with the top scoring and number of rebounds. The last game of the regular season on next Friday pits Bradwell against Johnson, it is also Senior’s Night.
