Area pharmacies get Medicare accreditation

POSTED: October 30, 2009 9:20 a.m.
RICHMOND HILL — Richmond Hill Pharmacy, Medical Center Pharmacy and Whitman Pharmacy have received Medicare accreditation status by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care for their home/durable medical equipment services and medical supply provider services.
Accreditation is mandated by Medicare and allows pharmacies to bill Medicare on behalf of customers. All three pharmacies are part of the Coastal Family of Pharmacies.
“While we’re highly committed to maintaining excellence in the service and products we offer, we feel it’s important to have these types of checks and balances by organizations like the ACHC to ensure we continue doing our absolute best to serve our customers,” said Al Dixon, owner of Richmond Hill Pharmacy.
To become accredited, health-care organizations must voluntarily submit to a peer review of their internal policies, processes and patient care delivery.
The Accreditation Commission for Health Care was developed by home care and community-based providers to help companies improve business operations and patient-care quality.  “The survey process leads an organization to examine its policies and practices continually to clarify its strengths and improve its weaknesses,” commission president Tom Cesar said.
