A workday took place Jan. 26 at the Historic LeConte Woodmanston Rice Plantation and Botanical gardens near Riceboro.
The effort was undertaken to restore the gardens to their original 19th century splendor.
LeConte board member and Master Gardener Barbara Rozier Frankenthaler organized the event with extension agents, Master Gardeners and gardeners from Bryan, Chatham and Liberty counties.
The workday was deemed a great success, but organizers noted there is much more to be done and asked for all concerned individuals to help with this project.
Organizers also credited Liberty County Commissioner Marion Stevens and Yvonne Jones at the county road department for removing trash along the Barrington Ferry Road prior to the workday.
Also, the public is urged to attend the LeConte Woodmanston annual fish fry and meeting on Feb. 10 at the plantation. Please RSVP by Feb. 7. Anyone interested in helping with the gardening project or wanting to RSVP for the fish fry is asked to contact Barbara Frankenthaler at 368-4334 or John Ryon at 884-5371.
