Highlanders hit 40 straight wins

POSTED: December 21, 2009 10:10 a.m.

Riding the winning train, the First Presbyterian Christian Academy Highlanders have yet to make their first stop. Their 40th straight win was over Robert Toombs Christian Academy, 70-41, on day one of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Lyons County Friday.

"It felt pretty good," Highlander coach David Jones said, quickly adding he isn’t focusing on how many times in a row they’ve won. He is concentrating on developing a game plan.

"We’ll take our wins one at a time," he said. "More importantly we are working on developing our offense and last night we were more patient on offense than I’ve ever seen and I was very pleased with that."

The veteran coach, who is in his first year at FPCA, said he is adjusting his defensive scheme and, so far, his players have adjusted to the new system.

The Highlanders were set to go against yet another undefeated 8-0 school, Bulloch Academy, yesterday afternoon.

The coach said his 10-0 Highlanders might have a battle. The Bulloch squad has several quick guards who stand between 6’5-6’8.

"They might pose a problem to us if we don’t adjust quickly," he said.

The Courier will bring you the results as they become available.
