The second annual Redneck Polar Bear Plunge to benefit animal rescue will be from 1-3 p.m.  Saturday, behind the Hinesville VFW on Highway 196. Proceeds go to a new animal rescue organization each year, selected by event sponsor Sparky’s Family Style Entertainment.
Cost to participate in the plunge — an invigorating trip down an inflatable waterslide — is $20. Participants can take advantage of a heated changing room after their watery trip down the slide, and all visitors can also purchase a $5 spaghetti dinner from the VFW. Proceeds from the dinner also go to this year’s selected rescue group, Animal Haven of Hope Society. Last year’s recipient was the Liberty Humane Shelter.
During the event, a rabies clinic and certificates for discounted spay and neuter services will be available and cats will also be available for adoption, as well.
To register in advance for the plunge or for more information, visit www.go2oz.org, and fill out the registration form. Participants can also register on-site and will receive a “polar bear club” membership card. Donations from non-participants are also welcome, and all donors receive a certificate for their support.
