Nearly every week, there is another super hero featured in a new movie on the big screen. Well, I would like to introduce you to a different kind of super hero, one you probably never saw in the comics when you were growing up.
It’s a bird ... it’s a plane ... no, it’s KAB MAN!
Who is KAB MAN? Recently “hired” by the Keep America Beautiful national office, KAB Man (a.k.a. Jeff) is a super hero who is guaranteed to connect with the hard-to-reach 20-something audience.
In the tradition of most super heroes, KAB MAN is an unassuming, mild-mannered guy who seems a little overwhelmed by his mission, but determined to fight litter to his last breath. The campaign launched April 24.
You can view all three episodes of “The Adventures of KAB MAN” at www.kabman.org <https://owa.dca.state.ga.us/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.kabman.org/>
This campaign to increase awareness about the main mission of Keep America Beautiful to get people to stop littering and encourage participation from young adults.
Why young adults? In several recent research studies on patterns of littering, young adults are most likely to litter', particularly, young males. These young men and women are not as easily reached by traditional forms of advertising, like articles in the newspaper. So how can you be a superhero too? Forward the link to your friends and family, especially the younger ones. Share it with your co-workers too.

On the Web
Do you or your children have a MySpace.com account? You can sign up to become KAB MAN’s “friend” at www.myspace.com/keepamericabeautiful <https://owa.dca.state.ga.us/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.myspace.com/keepamericabeautiful>
I will show my technical ignorance here, because although I have heard of MySpace.com, I do not know much about it. Evidently, the more people who sign up as a friend of KAB MAN, the better it is.
Another quirky environmental site aimed at children has also been developed recently. The Greens is an entertaining, new project from PBS affiliate WGBH. It recently launched at www.meethegreens.org <https://owa.dca.state.ga.us/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.meethegreens.org/>
Designed to get kids thinking about the world and their place in it, The Greens project is upbeat and optimistic. This offbeat family — the Greens — encourages kids to make informed choices and meaningful changes about living “green.”
Through animated, episodic adventures, a blog, kids’ mail, interactive games and regular updates, the site explores green living: sustainability, ecology and environmental care. For instance, Izz and Dex (the site’s main characters) recently interviewed Rob Wallace of Keep America Beautiful.
This is an entertaining site that shares an important message for our upcoming generation, but I think it is thought provoking (and cute) for all of us adults, too.

Thank you
We want to give a BIG thank you to the Young Adult Liberty Leaders and the Midway Middle School Builders Club as well as Midway Middle School, Liberty County High School and Bradwell Institute for their participation in the national project Students for Recycling that was sponsored from March through May.
With the support of our local community, these students were able to collect 5.26 tons of plastic water and soda bottles. Great job!
This was a joint project with the local United Way. Thanks to Leah Poole and all the students, teachers, school staff and families who contributed to this successful project.
We will learn later in the summer about how our schools placed with other schools across the nation. The national project is sponsored by Keep America Beautiful, Sam’s Club and Aquafina.

Upcoming KLCB event
Oct. 20 (tentative date): Rivers Alive cleanups in Liberty County. Mark your calendar now!
