Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity. Nor do we know what motivated the callers:

Editor’s note: We received several Sound off calls on the Hinesville City Council’s recent vote to increase the wages of the council and the mayor. It should be noted the increase would not take effect until the 2012 term.

OK, people, if you don’t know how to drive on a round-about, then you need to stay off Main Street. Don’t sit there for every other car to completely clear the round before you enter it.

The headline in the Coastal Courier, “Council votes for raises,” look at the amounts. OK, taxpayers, now’s the time, next election, to change the guard. As bad as times are, anyone who would double their salaries need not be in office.

The council almost tripled their salaries for their vote. And the manager, Billy Edwards, said they are supposed to come. The whole United States and world is in what you describe as a depression. What type of people do we have running this city?

I think you guys, when discussing the salaries, should have also gone into the private sector versus what these same people would be getting in the public sector. That’s the comparison I’d like to see.
