Checkpoint in Ludowici yields tickets

POSTED: July 26, 2007 5:02 a.m.
The Ludowici Police Department, along with the state’s Motor Carrier Compliance Division, conducted a highway safety checkpoint June 30 at the intersection of Highways 84 and 301.
The effort took place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
According to LPD Investigator Richard Robertson, such checkpoints are scheduled primarily to ensure drivers have a valid driver’s license and insurance coverage, and their vehicles are safe.
“We do all we can to support the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Program, and these checks help to do that,” Police Chief Frank McClelland said.
During the operation, the LPD had six officers at the checkpoint and the MCCD had two involved.
“All in all, I think it went well. We want to do all we can to make sure drivers are in safe vehicles and have the proper paperwork to be operating a vehicle,” McClelland said.
As a result of the effort, the following citations were given out:
Driving while license suspended: Four
Operating a vehicle without proper tag on vehicle: Two
No license on person: One
Improper window tint: One
Open container of alcohol while operating a vehicle: One
Driving while unlicensed: One
