3rd ID troops killed in Iraq

Three 3rd Infantry Division soldiers died in Iraq this past Friday, according to a statement released by the Department of Defense on Tuesday evening.
Sgt. Gene L. Lamie, 25, and Pfc. Le Ron A. Wilson, 18, were killed on July 6 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle in Iraq. The site of the IED blast was not given.
Lamie, a native of Homerville was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
Wilson, who called Queens, N.Y., home, was assigned to the 26th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade.
Pfc. Bruce C. Salazar, a member of the division’s 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, also died on July 6 after sustaining wounds from an IED explosion in Muhammad Sath, Iraq.
The 24-year-old was a native of Tracy, Calif.
Killed along with Salazar was Fort Leonard Wood soldier, Cpl. Kory D. Wiens. The 20-year-old was assigned to the 94th Mine Dog Detachment, 5th Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Based on a July 10 DoD casualty report, 30 U.S. troops have died so far this month. The total number of troop deaths since the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March 2003 is now 3,609.
