Walthourville to honor former mayor, council

Walthourville’s mayor and council will honor Lyndol Anderson, the city’s first mayor and her all-woman council at 11 a.m. July 21 at city hall.
A historical marker will be erected in honor of Anderson, who was appointed by then governor, Jimmy Carter, and elected in the city's first election on Dec. 4, 1974.
The all-woman government was featured on CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite in 1974 for their accomplishments.
Organizers say the city is going all out with this celebration. Officials from across the state have been invited to celebrate the occasion and the public is invited to attend the celebration.
