Three people are facing felony drug charges following their arrests Saturday in the Sand Hill Community of Long County, according to law enforcement authorities.
The arrests were a result of a coordinated effort by the Long County Sheriff’s Department and the Liberty/Long MACE Unit.
According to Sheriff Cecil Nobles, the sheriff’s department contacted the MACE unit to aid in the operation of a roadside checkpoint and a canvassing of the area. The joint operation took place from 1:30-4 p.m.
Michael O. Butler was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
The subject was reportedly questioned by authorities and attempted to flee on foot. While fleeing, he tossed a pill bottle that was later determined to contain seven rocks of cocaine, according to MACE Commander Al Cato.”
During the roadside check, Vasean Washington and Brandon A. Butler were arrested after officers found two ounces of marijuana in the vehicle they occupied.
Both subject were charged with “possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute
“It was a very effective operation. There were 12 officers out there with our deputies and the MACE team,” Nobles said. “We want the people to know, that we are going to do all we can to get as many of these people off the street as we can.”
Cato noted, “It was very productive, and we are definitely making plans to do more of these in Long County in the future, probably on a larger scale.”
