Hundreds of area residents came out for Project Reach GANG’s (God’s Anointed New Generation) 10th annual Back-To-School Rally on Saturday in Riceboro’s Briar Bay Park.
The event is hosted every year to get students, parents, teachers and other community members ready for the upcoming school and to influence more community involvement in the school system.
This year’s rally featured WTOC’s Magic Mark and guest speaker Liberty County Board of Education Chairman Lily Baker, who also handed out free school supplies to a number of students and their parents.
While many of the adult attendees took advantage of the free health checks and information booths sponsored by local businesses and outreach organizations, most of the kids enjoyed free food and activities, such as horse rides and water slides.
The event also included an evening contemporary gospel concert featuring artists Nita Copening of Columbia, S.C., the Augusta State University Gospel Choir and selections sung by members of GANG.
