The Beta Theta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on Sept. 7, in the social hall of the Pembroke United Methodist Church.
Educator members from Bryan, Evans, Effingham, Liberty and Long counties collectively form the Beta Theta Chapter.
This professional association seeks to empower and strengthen the role of education throughout the world. The group participates in service projects, offers scholarships to women in educational fields, and enhances the personal and professional growth of its members.
Highlights of the September meeting included the induction of two new members into the chapter, the recognition of 40 years of dedicated service to the Beta Theta Chapter by Effingham County member Alice Rhoda Ferrell and an inspiring musical program by the Evans County members.
The group also enjoyed the opportunity to raise funds for their World Fellowship Fund by purchasing tickets for a “Chocolate Lover’s Dream” basket and a “Bake and Make” basket.
President Iris Sims noted that the mission of the Society is “to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.”
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society is long-steeped in history and tradition. The society was founded by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton in 1929 in Texas and has been a leader and advocate for the advancement of women educators since that time.
Today, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International has more than 100,000 members in 17 countries around the world all dedicated to the society’s mission.
