The other day I had written down several things I needed to do while I was in town. Since I was in a hurry, I scribbled the things down on a scrap piece of paper.
Later while I was in town I looked down at my notes and thought I was reading, “Go by money school – call phone.” For quite a while I couldn’t figure out what on earth I was trying to say.
But as I looked at it more closely and remembering what I needed to do, I realized that those scribbled words were supposed to say, “Go by Melodie’s school – cell phone.” What this all meant was that I was supposed to take my wife’s cell phone to her at the school where she works.
There are a lot of things we read that we don’t understand – and for many reasons. But there are some things that are crystal clear that are found in the word of God (the Bible).
If you read the Bible it is clear that God loves people, and a key verse is found in John 3:16 where it starts out with, “For God so loved the world …”
It is also clear that God hates sin, for He knows that unless dealt with, it will destroy people’s lives and the lives around them. The church must be like our heavenly Father in that we hate sin but love the sinner.
The Bible also makes it clear that judgment awaits those who are sinners and have not received forgiveness. But the Bible makes it very clear that God has provided a remedy for mankind’s sin problem.
John 3:16 goes on to say, “that He (God) gave his only son (Jesus Christ) that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Christ dying on the cross was the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.
The big question is: Have you trusted in God’s provision for your sins? The good news is that if you haven’t, you can.
