A new program to help the needy has begun at the Midway United Methodist.
Several members of the church, including Dennis and Georgianne Christiansen, looked around and decided that the church and the community could use a new program to serve others. The group thought a food pantry was a good way to help others in a very basis way.
The pantry is already under way. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, food bags were distributed to needy people in the Midway community. The program will help people in the Midway community, not those in other communities. It has been decided that rather than helping in neighboring communities, the food pantry would serve just the Midway area. The sponsors felt that other communities would be better served in their own communities.
The food pantry will be open on third Tuesdays from 9 a.m. until noon. Bags of food will include staples, meat, canned vegetables, dry goods and some hygiene items. A registration form will have to be filled out for distribution.
The food pantry is self-supporting by donations from members and friends. The church does not contribute to this cause. Everyone is welcome to contribute either food or money. No clothes are distributed, only food.
Volunteers man the food pantry. For more information, call the church office at 884-2329.
