The Lady Blue Tide fell to the Brantley County Herons, 40-49 in their game this past Tuesday.  It was the final home game for the team, and the final game before next week’s region tournament.
Brantley County jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first period, but the second period was dominated by the Tide.  The Long County girls went on an 11-2 run and went in at the half, tied 22-22.
In the third, the Herons gained the lead again, and going into the final period it was Brantley 32 and Long County 28.
With the fourth period, the Brantley girls appeared to be heading for an easy win, being up 37-28 with five minutes left to play.  But with Caela LaRochester getting key rebounds, a blocked shot, and a long three pointer; and with a couple of big field goals by Sharika Turner the Tide narrowed the score to 38-41.  Unfortunately, that was as close as the game got, and the Lady Herons went on to won, 49-40.
The Lady Tide finished the regular season with a record of 10 wins and 11 losses, and Region 2-AA mark of 7-7.  They also are the no. 4 seed in the Region Tournament next week.  They competed in a Christmas Tournament in Savannah, where they picked up a win against Johnson High, which was the first time the girls team had ever won against a 5-AAAAA school.
The Region 2-AA Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 15, 16 and 17 in Darien. The Lady Blue tides will play next Thursday against the winner of the game between Brantley County and Charlton County.
