Mostly uniform start to school year

POSTED: August 23, 2007 5:03 a.m.
The beginning of classes in Liberty County public schools is going smoothly, even with a new uniform policy as well as the usual back-to-school transition.
Interim Superintendent Harley Grove said the opening of classes had gone well; “We’re making a few adjustments in transportation and we appreciate parents being patient while we do that,” he said.
Grove said three or four percent of kindergarten through eighth grade students had not complied with the new uniform policy on Monday and the numbers were improving Tuesday.
Belts were apparently a problem area. If pants have belt loops, a black or navy belt must be worn.
Another area getting attention was jumpers.
They are not mentioned in the dress code, but Grove said the members of the board of education had decided they would allow jumpers of appropriate styles and colors.
