Members of the cross country, football, softball and cheerleading teams were honored at the recent Long County High School fall sports banquet. Today’s story will look at two of those teams, cross country and football.

Most Improved Runner was Shane DeLoach, while the Coaches Trophy went to Carlton Milton. Shawn Mills was recognized for his work in the classroom with the Cross Country Academic Achievement award. Mills also won the Best All-Around Runner trophy.

Football: Junior Varsity Offensive MVP went to Jaleel Braggs while JV Defensive MVP went to Jawaan Hawkins. The Lineman of the Year trophy was given to Anthony Roberts, and the Special Teams trophy went to Dantel Wright.

David Stewart was honored for his academics with the Junior Student Athlete plaque, while taking home the Mr. Long County Football trophy was Chris Stock.

Caleb Bailey was named Senior Student Athlete, while Marcus Williams took the plaque for being a team captain. Earning Defensive Specialist of the Year was Lamar Sims, who also was named a first-team member on the 2-AA All-Region team.

Kendrick King received a plaque as a team captain and also won the coveted Big Team/Little Me Coaches plaque.

Luke Golden received the Sophomore Student Athlete Plaque for his efforts in the classroom, and Golden also won the Offensive Specialist of the Year trophy.

Receiving the highest award for the football team was Al Jackson who took home the Blue Tide Award. This award is based on the student’s merits in academics, athletics, citizenship and character.

According to Long County High School athletic director Karen Swindell, all of the athletes who participated in football, cross country, softball and cheerleading did a good job.

The athletes on the cheerleading squad and the softball team will be featured next week in the Coastal Courier.
