With one-third of Long County High School’s basketball season over, both the Blue Tide and the Lady Tide hope to show improvement the rest of the way.

The Blue Tide boys, off to a 4-6 start, have shown that they can play hard and play as a team.

But the squad has had trouble at the free-throw line and those struggles cost them in close losses to Claxton and Wayne County.

This year, the Long County has not had a "go-to" guy to depend on as they have had in past years. As a result, they have had to rely more on team play than individual talent.

The boys have a 3-2 record in Region 2-AA with wins over Appling County, Toombs County and Jeff Davis.

The squad’s losses have come at the hands of McIntosh County and powerhouse Vidalia.

The 0-9 Lady Tide has struggled all season. Despite showing heart in all of their contests and continuing to fight until the final buzzer, the ladies don’t have the size or depth to match most of their opponents.

This Tuesday, the two teams will be back on the court to face Tattnall County.

The Battle Creek Warriors come into the game with an 8-1 overall record and are 5-0 in 2-AA.

They have impressive wins over McIntosh, Toombs and Brantley counties, and their only loss was to Class AAAA powerhouse Liberty County.

The Lady Warriors are 6-1 and undefeated in the region with a 5-0 mark. Their only loss was to Liberty County as well.

The games on Tuesday are in Reidsville with the JV contests starting at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Lady Tide at 6 and the Blue Tide at 7:30.
