Counterfeit bill
Aug. 3, Oglethorpe Highway

An officer was dispatched to West Oglethorpe Highway in reference to a counterfeit $100 bill. The complainant advised the officer the bank returned the bill to Wal-Mart. The bill was taken for evidence.

Possession of cocaine,
marijuana and
drug-related objects
Aug. 1, E. MLK Jr. Dr.

While patrolling East Oglethorpe Highway, an officer saw a vehicle without a tag light. The officer stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of Flash Foods at Oglethorpe Highway and Gen. Screven Way. When asked, the driver consented to a search of the vehicle. The officer found a small baggie of what appeared to be marijuana in an open pack if cigars and an “eight ball” of cocaine. The driver was arrested and the search resumed. Also discovered were several cold open Ice House beer cans under the driver’s seat and several more baggies of marijuana. A MACE agent was called in and took possession of the narcotics. The driver was taken to the Hinesville Police Department, where he was cited for the tag lights. He was also processed for possession of drug-related objects and taken to jail.

Mutual aid (EMS)
Aug. 4, W. Gen. Screven Way

An officer was dispatched to West Gen. Screven Way to assist EMS, already on the scene. The officer saw the suspect standing in a store trying to pay for a case of Busch beer. The man appeared to be intoxicated and was leaning on the counter. The officer told the subject he had received a complaint about a man passing out in the isle of the Food Lion store. The man denied passing out in the store, but admitted to drinking three or four beers. The man refused treatment by EMS and said he wanted to drive home. He was told he would have to take a cab. After getting in the cab, one of the officers gave the man his keys.

Theft by taking
Aug. 7, E.G. Miles Parkway

An officer was dispatched to Clyde’s Market on E.G. Miles Parkway in reference to a gas drive-off. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant, who said the driver of a small, blue car pumped $19.98 of gas and left without paying. The complainant said she could not give a description of the suspect, his vehicle or his direction of travel.

Found property
Aug. 7, Gen. Screven Way

An officer was dispatched to Gen. Screven Way in reference to suspicious acts. The officer spoke to the complainant who said a red pickup pulled in front of her house and a man dropped a backpack out. She called 911. The officer put the backpack into the HPD evidence locker. It had a name and phone number on it. The officer tried the number and left a message on an answering machine.
