Saturday wasn’t a good day for the Long County High School basketball program, as both the Blue Tide and the lady Tide lost to rival Wayne County High School in Jesup.
The girls fell 57-26 in their lowest-scoring performance of the season; the boys followed that with a 48-31 setback in a contest that marked the second-lowest offensive output for the Tide this season.
With the loss the Blue Tide fell into a tie with Brantley County for the fourth spot in Region 2-AA. Vidalia (15-1, 8-0) is currently on top of 2-AA with Tattnall County (10-3, 6-1), McIntosh County (8-7, 5-2), and Brantley (6-7, 4-3) and Long (5-8, 4-3) rounding out the top five teams. Pierce County (2-8, 2-5) is in the sixth spot, followed by Jeff Davis (3-8, 1-5), Appling County (5-, 1-6) and Toombs County (1-10, 0-6).
Vidalia (14-0, 8-0) is also on top the girls Region 2-AA standings, followed by Tattnall County (9-4, 7-1). Appling County (10-4, 6-2) and St. Vincent’s Academy (9-4, 6-2) are tied for third. Up next, the boys are off, but the Lady Tide are at home taking on St. Vincent’s Academy in Ludowici on Friday.
