Liberty County dropped its second straight region game Friday with a lopsided 53-38 loss to the Lady Red Terrors at Glynn Academy.

"Tonight, Glynn just simply beat us in transition," Lady Panthers coach Carolyn Kelly said. "We didn’t stop them on the break or even slow them down. Glynn just out-hustled us tonight."

The game was tight early and the first period ended with the score tied at nine. But the Lady Terrors hit a 3-pointer and added a transition basket to take a 22-14 lead halfway into the second quarter. Liberty tried to keep the game close and a bucket and a pair of free throws from Precious Williams cut the Glynn lead to 26-20 at the half.

Neither team played well in the third period, but Catherine Scaggs’ jump shot pulled Liberty to within 34-28. That was as close as the Lady Panthers would get.

Leading 38-29 in the fourth quarter, the Lady Terrors intensified their press and blew the game open with an 11-point run.

Scaggs led Liberty with 10 points. Jasmina Smith chipped in nine points and Courtney Rhodes finished with seven points for the Lady Panthers.

"We had players in the wrong place tonight. There were times we didn’t have the right personnel taking the ball out. We showed that we didn’t have any concept about the game tonight. You have to be able to do the little things like close out defensively, stop transition, and block out to win and we just have not been doing that the way we should," Kelly said.

She said they have to play much better defense and be able to attack the basket on offense to get back on the winning track.

"We are to the point it’s back to square one. We are going to lock the basketballs up and just work on the right way to rotate and play defense," Kelly said.

The loss against Glynn dropped Liberty to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in Region 2A-AAAA

The Lady Panthers played Tattnall County on Saturday night and will host region foe Richmond Hill on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers were victorious against both teams in their initial meetings.

"We beat Tattnall and Richmond Hill the first time we played them. Both teams are going to be better the next we play them, so we have to be ready to play our best basketball," Kelly said.
