The Liberty County School System technology department has implemented a program, Technology Teacher of the Month, to recognize teachers who exemplify the integration of technology in the classroom. Since 2008, this program has motivated teachers to incorporate technology into their lessons. With numerous technology tools available to teachers, students are able to learn about different content areas in a variety of settings.
Principals are allowed to nominate a teacher from their schools based on criteria. The LCSS instructional technology specialists then observe each teacher and collaborate to determine one overall winner. The winner receives a new technology tool for their classroom. Some of the previous prizes have included Elmo document cameras, Flip Videos and netbooks. Each nominee also received a bag of technology goods.
The program is a way to thank teachers who provide their students with a 21st century learning environment that incorporates tools that enhance the curriculum and allow for solid learning experiences, according to LCSS officials.

Elementary technology teacher of the month:
Tracy Zapf and her Joseph Martin Elementary School fifth-graders use technology to enhance learning in the classroom. Zapf allows students to record tutorials using a Flip Video, navigating lessons using a wireless presenter and working on Smart Board problems using a Mobi.
Zapf said she always tries to integrate technology.

High school technology teacher of the month:
Keith McGee said he uses technology to motivate students in his weightlifting class at LCHS. He uses the Flip Video to record students, which motivates them to reach their goals. He uploads the videos to a blog and displays them during class, allowing other students to learn proper techniques. McGee also uses his blog to help students earn scholarships as coaches from different universities and colleges can watch his students in action.

Pre-K technology teacher of the month:
Kim Durrence uses technology as a learning tool for her students and a communication tool for their parents. She designs various Smart Board activities that allow students to interact, learn and have fun.
She often learns new programs to further engage students in the classroom and shares her skills with others. Her blog allows parents to see activities the students participate in during the day and even allows them to watch multi-media projects created by their children.
