Lady Tigers improve to 20-0

POSTED: January 31, 2011 10:34 a.m.

Bradwell kept its season-long win streak alive with a 43-25 win over Jenkins at home Friday night.

Lady Tiger coach Faye Baker said the Lady Tigers, who usually get rolling in the second half, had a sluggish final two periods after posting 29 points in the first half.

"We had a low scoring third quarter," she said. "We missed easy shots."

Despite having a 20-0 overall record and 12-0 region, Baker said her No. 8-ranked team has room for improvement as the regular season winds down.

"We haven’t peaked at all even though we’ve been successful," Baker said. "What we try to harp on are the things we are not doing well. Even though we are 20-0 there are still things we can work on."

The Region 3-AAAAA playoffs start Feb. 11.

In boys’ action, Bradwell played host to top-seeded Jenkins High Friday night and the Warriors showed why they’re the top team in Region 3-AAAAA by toppling the Tigers 64-49. They are 3-15 overall and 3-10 in Region 3-AAAAA.

Panthers fall

Liberty County fell to 13-7 overall and 3-4 in Region 2A-AAAA after losing in Brunswick 72-57 Friday night. Liberty will host Wayne County on Tuesday. The girls tip-off at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow.

Long County wins

The Blue Tide narrowly defeated Toombs County 58-56 on the road Tuesday. With the win the Long County team swept this season’s two-game series between the 2-AA schools, having won their first contest 61-60.

The Long County boys’ and girls’ basketball both lost their games to Brantley County on Friday. The Tide lost 60-56 and the Lady Tide fell 56-26. The Tide fell to 8-11 and the Lady Tide dropped to 1-17.
