Slow start hurts Lady ’Landers

POSTED: February 2, 2011 12:36 p.m.

The First Christian Academy Lady Highlanders could not make up for a rough start Saturday against visiting Curtis Baptist and the result was a 61-36 loss.

"We were unable to make the offense work as well as we did Friday night. We have got to work harder on our press breaker. Their press just forced us to turn the ball over too many times," Lady Highlanders coach Rosby Frasier said.

Trailing 20-5 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Higlanders settled down and began trading scores with Curtis Baptist to trail 33-20 at halftime.

In the second half the Lady Crusaders began to dominate on both ends of the floor.

"Even though we lost, the girls played well at times. We didn’t quit and they kept fighting. Curtis is a good basketball team. If you give a good team extra chances at the basket it will come back to hurt you. Because we were not as strong as we should have been on the boards, Curtis was able to get second and third shot attempts. We just need to keep our heads up and keep working hard and get ready for Toombs Tuesday night," Frasier said.

Brianna Reece led the Lady Highlanders with 15 points. Aaliyah Wilson put in eight points and Emonie Fisher added seven.

The loss dropped FPCA to 2-3 in region play. The Lady Highlanders were to host Robert Toombs Academy Tuesday night for its final home region game of the season.

"The last time we played Robert Toombs Academy we won 36-34. The game was a real barn burner and we definitely expect another one Tuesday night," Frasier said.
