In their final home game of the season Tuesday, the First Presbyterian Christian Academy Lady Highlanders sent senior Keandra Battle out on a high note by beating Robert Toombs Academy 44-34.

Battle is the only senior on the squad and was honored during a ceremony after the girls won. Battle chipped in nine points and grabbed several offensive rebounds.

"She used her body well tonight," Lady ’Lander coach Rosby Frasier said of Battle. "Tonight was her night, being a senior and being in the starting rotation. We told her, ‘Go out there and have fun.’ She had fun, scored points and got the rebounds."

The FPCA girls took the lead early but the defense on both sides of the court kept the score low with the home team up 8-2 at the close of the first.

Brianna Reese and Aaliyah Wilson led the FPCA with 13 points each, and many of FPCA’s scoring opportunities were created by Battle’s rebounding and T’era Alston’s ability to snag steals and manage the ball and clock.

"That was the turn around," Frasier said. "We were converting our turnovers off the press for easy points. We play the hardest and we play our best when we get points off of turnovers."

Wilson, Reese and Alston kept the ball moving and tiring RTCA. The FPCA girls were able to outscore the Crusaders 31-21 in the second half for the Region 2-AA win.

The Lady ’Landers will head to what they call hostile territory tonight when they visit St. Simons to take on Frederica Academy.

"It’s a tough place to play," Frasier said.

Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
